Work Suspended

Unfortunately my reviewing work for Bristol Uncovered has come to an abrupt end. And to be honest, I'm not sure that's such a bad thing. I would quite like to be able - for the first time in 8 years - to just go to the theatre, pay for my ticket, and not have to analyse and opinionate all the way through. To watch the show without having the critic in me constantly scribbling little (mental) notes. To come out of the auditorium at the end of the performance and forget or remember as much or as little as I want to.
And so I am going to take this opportunity to stop reviewing for a while. To rejoin the serried ranks of punters who queue up for tickets, pay for their drinks in the interval, and don't always get the best seats in the house - the 'little people' who are not fawned over by artistic directors and press officers, and who don't scare actors at social gatherings. To become Joe Public, just looking for a good night out. The only problem is, who will guide me in deciding what play to see? How will I know what's good and what's not? There used to be a reviewer called Toby something who was pretty reliable, but he seems to have stopped writing ....
